Speakers

Rev. France A. DavisKeynote Speaker

Rev. France A. Davis was born and reared in Gough, Georgia. He came to Salt Lake City in 1972 as a teaching fellow and graduate student. He was appointed instructor in communication and ethnic studies courses, earning a distinguished teacher award. Pastor Davis retired July 1, 2014 from the University of Utah as an Adjunct Associate Professor Emeritus. Since 1974, Rev. Davis has been the pastor of the historic Calvary Baptist Church of Salt Lake City. In April 2016, he reached 50 years in the ministry.

Dr. Stefanie CarnesKeynote Speaker

Stefanie Carnes, Ph.D. is the President of the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals, and a senior fellow for Meadows Behavioral Healthcare where she works with sexually addicted clients and their families. She is a licensed marriage and family therapist and an AAMFT approved supervisor.  Dr. Carnes is also a clinical sexologist, and certified sex addiction therapist and supervisor, specializing in therapy for couples and families struggling with sexual addiction. 

Jay StringerKeynote Speaker

Jay Stringer is a licensed mental health counselor, ordained minister, and author of the award-winning book Unwanted: How Sexual Brokenness Reveals Our Way to Healing.

Unwanted is based on a multiyear research project on over 3,800 men and women to address the key drivers of unwanted sexual behavior, be that the use of pornography, infidelity, or buying sex.

Reverend Davis will present on the essential component of spirituality & connection with the God of our understanding as we heal from addictive behaviors and trauma.
Jay Stringer
Learning From Unwanted Behaviors
Therapist, minister, and researcher, Jay Stringer will discuss how sexual brokenness reveals our way to healing by understanding:

  • how unwanted sexual behaviors provide clues to the core desires & motivations that drive addictive behaviors
  • how getting curious about our unwanted sexual behaviors can actually facilitate healing

Stefanie Carnes
Surviving Relational Betrayal: Supporting Your Coupleship during Recovery from Sex Addiction
Stefanie Carnes, Ph.D, therapist & clinical sexologist will discuss strategies to help support the relationship through the recovery process including:

  • understanding the traumatic nature of betrayal & how to respond to the betrayed partner’s pain
  • learning to adopt a stance of honesty, transparency and commitment in the relationship
